Chris Evans: Virgin Radio host sends important health message to listeners ahead of test

Chris Evans, 53, dedicated a segment of his Tuesday morning Virgin Radio show to focus on the issue of people leaving worrying symptoms until it’s too late. He sent a clear message that it’s important to get anything abnormal checked out sooner rather than later, in case anything untoward is going on.

The radio DJ shares intimate details about his life with his listeners, including health checks and various issues he’s been experiencing, without being too graphic.

He recently announced that he would be undergoing a colonoscopy because his wife of 12 years, Natasha, suggested he get one just to be sure everything was ok.

He encouraged listeners to “get themselves checked for Christmas,” and now he’s had the procedure done, he’s even more hell-bent on raising awareness for the important, yet slightly “unpleasant”, process.

“It’s a very necessary process,” he said.

“It can save your life.”

Messages from his audience came flooding in thanking him for touching on the important subject many men feel “embarrassed” to discuss.

One of Chris’ pals told the radio host how one of her friends left his symptoms for quite some time before he got them checked, and luckily, it wasn’t too late for him to overcome it.

“Why would you do that?” the former BBC presenter sighed.

“Because we’re blokes and we’re stupid! And, we’re scared, that’s the real reason why.”

“Three seconds per snip, snip, snip, off for a biopsy and they were clear,” he explained.

“But they were called polyps and they’re the chandeliers that cancer needs to grow on. They form first and once they form, then the cancer has its allotment.”

He explained that because the professionals could “get rid” of the polyps, the cancer “had nowhere to go” in his case.

But his health tips didn’t stop there.

He also encouraged listeners to get other “sleeper diseases” checked before it’s too late.

“The three big ones for people of our age are skin cancer, which I had tested on Friday, prostate cancer, which I had checked last year and colon cancer.

“They’re the three big ones that you can’t see and when symptoms do come to the surface, you don’t want to leave it that long,” he warned.

With messages from the thankful audience continuing to roll in, hopefully Chris‘ advice will inspire more people to take health alerts seriously and get themselves checked out.

The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky airs at 6:30am on Virgin Radio.
