Chris Evans: Virgin Radio host mocks James Martin for being sick during cookery show

Chris had heard of the story from one of the spitfire pilots who recounted the events for listeners. The 53-year-old hoped that James would be listening as the pilot explained how he took the chef on some aerobatics. He added that James chased him for making him queasy on the plane and said he would do the same to the pilot by making him a passenger in one of his cars.

Speaking on his Virgin Radio Breakfast Show, Chris said: “Hey James, if you’re listening. We’ve put off the pain long enough.

“Over to either of you for the James Martin story.”

The co-host said: “So, James came to do some flying with us for one of his cookery shows.

“I think one aired this year, it was called the great British adventure or something similar.

“The idea was he wanted to do a piece to camera flying over the white cliffs and as part of doing that we had to do some fairly aggressive breakaways and rejoins and the plan was we’d go and do half an hour of that with him talking to the camera and then we’d do some aero arobatics.

“We did three or four of these and I said, ‘How are you feeling, James?’

“He was quite quiet and having known the man for only 20 minutes or so I thought, something’s going on in the back.

“I was smiling slightly. I never want to make people sick obviously but he professed to feeling a little queasy at that point and then not wanting to do any of the aerobatics and wanting to return to base.

“When we got out of the airplane he shouted out at me and then chased me around the atrium for making him sick.

“He promised me he would take me out in one of his cars and make me sick driving as fast as he could.”

The hilarious story comes after Chris revealed to listeners when he thought his house was falling down.

Chris said: “I had this experience once with the little hard tubular bits at the end of shoe strings, aglets, I think they are called.

“Well, one of those aglets got caught in the washing machine.

“It slipped through the holes in the washing machine and I thought the house was going to fall down.

“There was hell to pay.”

Chris Evans Virgin Radio Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am.
