Chris Evans: Virgin Radio host FUMES at UK coming last in Eurovision song contest

Chris told listeners his shock that the UK had come last in the Eurovision song contest in Tel Aviv last Saturday. The 53-year-old raged about the UK only getting 16 points while the Netherlands won with 492 points. He was in such disbelief, he thought it was a joke.

Speaking on his Virgin Radio Breakfast Show, Chris said: “The UK could put Dua Lipa on to perform a song by Mark Ronson and we still come last.

“What do you mean we came last in Eurovision?

“There was a news lockdown around the studio today because they didn’t want to tell us.

“I thought we had won and we had the winner to come on the show as a surprise for all of us.

“We came last! What, actually last?”

His co-host said: “We can’t have come last. Don’t be silly.”

Chris went on: “Hang on a second, Netherlands, 492 points they won it.

“United Kingdom, 16 points.

“The winners had 492, we got 16 points. You’re joking.

“We actually did come last.

“Oh my God. Our song wasn’t that bad, was it? Wasn’t that bad at all!

“Australia beat us in a European competition that was held in Israel.

“We’re one of the five nations that pay for it, aren’t we?

“That’s why we get free entry. Well, not anymore.

“Australia came ninth with 289 points.

“We got 16 points, you’re joking. This Australia song beat us by 269 points.”

Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am on Virgin Radio.
