Chris Evans: Virgin Radio host defends ‘slacker’ accusation ‘why I left the show early'


When Mr Evans heard that one of his co-hosts had returned from a months holiday in france he broke his silence about the text he had received. He said: “People texted me saying ‘what are you doing slacker? They complained about me leaving the show half an hour early on Friday.

The Virgin Radio host added: “I haven’t had a day off all year, I’ve been working.”

Then Mr Evans explained that he was very busy with the BBC radio 2 five hundred words competition.

He said: “It is part of our thing, we set it up.

“We came up with it, it was booked.

“We booked Windsor Castle.

“The duchess of cornwall agreed to turn up and that was work mate.”

The radio mega star went on to explain, “this is why I left the show early.”

“I’m only leaving the show half an hour early on Friday as I have to be at the Children in Need auctions.”

Then he joked, feel free to try out a different radio station while I’m not here.

Chris Evans does keep himself busy, he founded the festival’s Carfest North and Carfest South back in 2012.

Carfest North is in Cheshire’s Bolesworth Estate.

The 53-year-old DJ also claims to be addicted to running.

Mr Evans was born in Warrington, England.

He was the youngest child of bookmaker father and health authority wages clerk mother.

After the death of his father, the 13-year-old Evans took part-time work at an outlet of T. J. & B. McLoughlin’s newsagent–tobacconist in Woolston.

He showed his business savvy by running an alternative tuck-shop at Padgate High School.

Chris Evans Virgin Radio Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am.
