Chris Evans: Virgin Radio Breakfast Show host addresses ‘sneaky’ move with the BBC

During a recent episode of his Virgin Radio show, Chris Evans, 53, was joined by Sophie Rundle, 31, who plays Anne Walker in BBC’s new drama Gentleman Jack. After introducing Sophie, he told the actress he had watched the first episode of the drama with the help of his connections at the BBC. “I watched Gentleman Jack episode one,” he began, before revealing he still has access to a sneak preview BBC website. He added: “It’s on the sneak preview BBC website, which they still let me look at.”

After his revelation, the pair went on to say discuss the show, with Chris praising Suranne Jones’ performance in the drama.

He also informed Sophie the programme will take over Line of Duty’s slot in the channel’s schedule.

Chris then quizzed her about the crime drama – whose fifth series recently finished – which she insisted was “nothing” like Gentleman Jack.

He went on to ask her if she understood the drama’s plot after informing her his co-host Vassos Alexander was convinced viewers didn’t understand what was going on.

Sophie replied: “Did I figure it out? Never.”

Chris and Sophie’s chat comes after the DJ told his listeners about a big change he made on his show.

During an episode last week, he told listeners he was feeling “worse for wear” after a night out with Sports Breakfast’s Alan Bazil, 59.

Speaking of his change to his usual antics, he said: “I never eat anything during the show.

“[I] just get on with the show. I have loads to drink, I have loads of herbal teas.”

He added: “But I don’t have anything to eat ever unless we’re doing something on the air about some kind of food or we’re testing some kind new savoury snack or something like that – or sugary naughty treat.”

But after his fun-filled night, Chris admitted he broke tradition and opted for a “double bacon and sausage brioche” with ketchup and brown sauce.

Chris joined Virgin Radio back in January after leaving his breakfast spot on BBC Radio 2 in December.

At the time he told listeners: “I’d like to thank my wife Natasha [Shishmanian], my gravity, my compass, my guiding light.

“I crave the uncertainty, but you can only do that against a backdrop of certainty and security.”

He added it was an “exciting day for everyone” as he prepared for his move to Virgin Radio.

Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am on Virgin Radio.
