Chris Evans: Virgin Radio Breakfast host makes huge dig at BBC after leaving Radio 2

Chris Evans, 53, left his BBC Radio 2 show in December following nine years at the helm to join Virgin Radio in January.

But the star still mentions his old employee and took a swipe at them on his show this week.

Speaking to listeners, he said: “Here we are with our friends at Sky. We are ad break free, unlike the BBC…”

When Chris’ stint on Virgin Radio was announced, it was revealed it would go ahead with adverts.

Rebekah Brooks, News UK chief executive, said: “When I started talking to Chris about his return to Virgin Radio, we were very clear we needed to do something to shake things up – something that tore up the rule books.

“Thanks to this partnership with Sky, Chris and his team will have unprecedented freedom and listeners will get more of Chris and the team than they would ever have expected. This line-up really is the dream ticket.”

Despite the swipe, Chris recently admitted it was “upsetting” leaving BBC last year.

Whilst Louise Redknapp was in the studio, Chris divulged all about his last day at the broadcaster.

“We finished working at the other place just before Christmas and that was very emotional,” he began.

“It was wonderful, it was actually very joyous even though it was upsetting as well but it was a really joyous and overall positive thing.”

He then revealed he has had thoughts about his last show on Virgin Radio, adding: “But I am already thinking about our last show – hopefully it’s not anytime soon.

“But I do think about it ‘cause we’re safe now because we’re at the beginning of the next chapter of the end.”

Meanwhile, earlier this week, the father-of-five revealed he and his wife, Natasha Shishmanian, do not sleep in the same bedroom and have rooms on separate floors.

Since welcoming twins, Boo and Walt, last year, Natasha has chosen to stay with the youngsters in a room away from Chris.

Explaining their living arrangement, Chris said it was her “genius” plan to have different bedrooms.

He said: “My wife sleeps on a different floor in a different bedroom with the twins. This is all her genius plan.

“Because she says there’s no point us both being dog tired cause we’ll end up, you know, biting each other’s head off every minute of every day.”

“It works perfectly,” he continued. “She’s so good, you know my wife is so clever.”

Gushing about his spouse, Chris added: “She could run the world quite easily in her sleep.

“Well at least better than most people who are paid to do that.”

Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am on Virgin Radio.
