Chris Evans ‘unable to speak’ after weekend’s antics ‘I'm still a bit groggy’

The radio host phoned into his Virgin Radio breakfast show on his day off to tell his team and listeners how the festival went. CarFest is an annual family music and motoring festival started by Chris in 2011 to raise cash for Children in Need. Chris explained: “I’m ok, I’m still a bit groggy, it was the biggest and best ever CarFest and it took its toll on most people that were involved in it, one of them was me.

“My voice was there for a while but then it seemed to… I don’t know where it went to be honest.

“I’ve been for a swim in a saltwater pool and I gargled with most of the pool to try and be able to speak.”

CarFest has two legs – one in the north and the other in the south.

The north leg is held at Bolesworth Estate in Cheshire.

The south leg is held at Laverstoke Park Farm in Hampshire.

CarFest has a variety of entertainment.

This includes live music, track shows, celebrity chef demos, driving experiences, steam fairs, fun runs and fancy dress parades.

In 2015, former F1 driver Martin Brundle created a 45m (147ft) long Scalextric track.

The design put together by Hornby featured components from some iconic F1 tracks.

This includes Ascari Chicane from Monza, Casino Square from Monaco, Copse from Silverstone and the Wall of Champions from Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

After Martin and Hornby built the track for CarFest, it was sold for charity.

Chris was signed to a three-year contract to present Top Gear.

He would leave after just one season.

That was Series 23 in 2016, the first without Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

Chris’s co-hosts were Matt LeBlanc, Sabine Schmitz, Chris Harris, Rory Reid and Eddie Jordan.

Chris Evans Virgin Radio Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am.
