Chris Evans places bet on Brexit deal getting voted down amid ‘uncertainty and nonsense’

Chris Evans, 53, placed a bet on whether Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s latest strategy would be voted down by MP’s in the run up to the UK leaving the EU amid “uncertainty and nonsense”.

The UK is due to leave on October 31 but with just over a week to go it’s uncertain whether Parliament will be able to push through a Brexit deal before the deadline is reached.

Speaking before Saturday’s vote, Chris said: “We may be Brexit free come 11 o’clock tomorrow night anyhow, if MP’s vote this new deal.”

“Well they’re calling it a deal. It’s not a deal is it, it’s a draft withdrawal agreement that will become deal if they vote it through,” he explained on his Virgin Radio breakfast show.

The host read out various tabloid headlines, noting they weren’t anti the deal: “They’re not don’t do it. They’re not saying do, but they’re not saying don’t do it.”

Before introducing his first guest of the morning the presenter asked listeners: “If you had a pound, how would you bet?”

“If it was my last pound I’d probably bet against it. If had a vote, then it’d be a different story but I don’t!” He joked.

The radio host featured quiz master Richard Osman who spoke about his new quiz book, radio DJ and presenter Angela Scanlon who opened up about her new podcast and rock band Elbow on Friday’s instalment of his show.

After the interview’s with Richard and Angela, the radio DJ couldn’t resist probing them for their latest Brexit opinions.

“What’s going to happen in Parliament tomorrow, we don’t know,” he quipped.

“I’m betting a pound its going down. I’m not sure if want it to get voted down if I’m honest because of all this uncertainty and nonsense. But I’m going to bet a pound that it is voted down.

“Anyone else want to bet?” Chris curiously asked his guests.

Richard suggested he believed there was going to be two votes for the deal, whereas Elbow band member Guy Garvey said: “I think it’ll get voted down.”

“I’m the same,” Angela agreed before joking: “I don’t gamble.”

“That’s the only answer to that question!” Richard laughed.

Yesterday, the father of three ran the Amsterdam marathon in aid of Dementia Revolution.

Chris thanked all his fans and people who donated to the cause on Friday’s show before he headed to Stansted airport where he was joined by 50 listeners/team mates.

Back in August, a live charity auction took place on the breakfast show offering VIP places in the race.

Raising over £400,000 for the charity, Chris was also joined by Dame Barbara Windsor’s husband, Scott Mitchell who supports the campaign.

Due to his charity run Chris will be back on air Tuesday morning.

The Chris Evans Virgin Radio Breakfast Show with Sky airs weekdays at 6.30am.
