Chris Evans: David Cameron makes shock Tory confession on Virgin Radio ‘Brutal business’

During his interview, Mr Cameron opened up about his time in Downing Street. He told Chris: “Politics is a brutal business and you know you have to be brutal by moments. I just thought the more you know Conservatives on my side of the campaign attack Conservatives on the other side of the campaign the more it would look like a blue on blue Tory psychodrama.

“And the more that became the case the more you know Labour voters in in in the Midlands and in the north of England who might want to stay in Europe the more they’re saying hang on this is just some Tory row I’ll stay out of it.

“And so there was a genuine problem and I think I still haven’t resolved to this day exactly what the right answer is.

“When you lose a fight and as you say you only had a penknife to a flamethrower, maybe I should have got the flamethrower too.”

It comes as Chris made a hilarious Brexit remark as he reflected on his departure from BBC Radio 2.

Mr Cameron is blamed by Remain voters for causing Brexit after he allowed the UK to vote on whether it wished to stay a member of the EU.

Chris had a longstanding association with the BBC before announcing he would leave the broadcaster last year.

He has since gone on to achieve huge success with Virgin, while his former slot on BBC radio has fallen.

But Chris likened his exit to that of Brexit as he discussed the move with co-host Rachel Horne.

Rachel was celebrating her anniversary of working with Chris and bought in a selection of treats for her colleagues.

And Chris said: “Rachel has bought in brownies because it’s her one year birthday.

“She joined us a week after we announced we would be leaving Radio 2.

“She’d already signed the contract but instead she came with us.

“She voted leave, we voted leave and we did leave.

“We said we were going to leave and we did leave with a deal.”

Chris had previously revealed to listeners his weight loss technique.

Chris Evans Virgin Radio Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am.
