The new Chinese owners of a Livingston technology business bought from administrators have pledged to invest in the operation after a deal which has saved 20 jobs.
Broadex UK has acquired Planar Lightwave Circuits (PLC), a division of the Kaiam Europe computer company which went into administration with the loss of 300 jobs before Christmas.
The division manufactures silicon wafers for the telecoms and data sectors.
Joint administrator Blair Nimmo, KPMG’s global head of restructuring, said the sale preserves 20 highly skilled jobs and knowledge within Scotland
“The new owners have expressed a keen desire to grow the PLC business, which could lead to new jobs being created. We wish the new owners every success.”
Wei Zhu, chief executive officer of Shanghai-based Broadex Technologies, said PLC was a “world class manufacturer”.
He added Broadex now intends to make the Livingston site a centre of technology innovation through new investment.
The failure of Kaiam was blamed on declining work levels during 2018 which led to significant cash flow difficulties.
