China Mobile Partners with TJ Sports, Blizzard, and NetEase for ‘China Mobile Cyber Competition’

Chinese telecommunication giant China Mobile (NYSE: CHL) announced a partnership deal with game publisher NetEase Database-Link-e1521645463907, Blizzard Entertainment Database-Link-e1521645463907, and TJ Sports Database-Link-e1521645463907. The deal will mainly focus on hosting China Mobile’s own 2019 China Mobile Cyber Competition (CMCC), starting in July and running until November. The competition will feature League of Legends Database-Link-e1521645463907 and Hearthstone Database-Link-e1521645463907, with the promise of over ¥1M RMB ($146K) in prize money. 

According to Zhang Dong, marketing director of China Mobile, the company will apply “5G+4K” communication technology to provide an “exclusive high-speed 4K ultra HD viewing experience” on both television and mobile devices for its users. In addition, the company will also create an “Esports Event” TV channel in its Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), which covers over 31 Chinese provinces and reaches 100M television users. 

China Mobile will also provide an esports exclusive mobile package to customers called “Carry Card” offering 40G high-speed phone data and monthly in-game items.

China Mobile is one of the largest broadband providers in China with a userbase of around 168M as of April 2019, according to Forbes. TJ Sports is a joint venture established by game publisher Tencent Database-Link-e1521645463907 and Riot Games Database-Link-e1521645463907 to facilitate League of Legends esports in China. At the Tencent Global Esports Summit last week TJ Sports announced that it will open one or two slot bids for 2020 League of Legends Pro League (LPL). NetEase is the exclusive Chinese distributor for game developer Blizzard Entertainment.
