Children in China banned from playing video games between 10pm and 8am – Evening Standard

China has banned children from playing video games between the hours of 10pm and 8am.

The Chinese government has imposed the curfew for anyone under 18 amid a health crisis.

Gaming addiction has become a problem, the administration said on Tuesday, and is “harming the physical and mental health of minors”.

The new regulations, released by the National Press and Publication department, include a time limit of how long a child can play per day.

Under the law, children in the country are allowed just 90 minutes a day, an allowance that stretches to three hours on weekends, the Guardian reported.

The rules also restrict the amount of money they can spend on online games.

Those between the ages of eight and 16 can only spent 200 yuan – $29. Teenagers aged 16 to 18 can spend 400 yuan, just $57.

It will be a requirement for children to use their real names and identification numbers when they log on to play.

The curfews are the latest measure by the Chinese state to regulate the country’s online gaming industry, which is one of the largest in the world.

Companies will be required to enforce the rules which a spokesperson said should act as a “guide” to parents.
