Cheryl admits she doesn’t mind her music doing ‘awfully’ if her ‘heart is in it’

Cheryl has admitted that she would rather see her music do “awfully” than produce anything that her “heart wasn’t truly in”.

The singer, who is about to release new single Let You, confessed that she “wishes she had fought harder” for some of the tracks she put out as singles to “keep the labels happy” and that she would prefer to see her career flop but have made the decision herself.

“Sometimes decisions were made to keep the labels happy as opposed to us as artists and it’s hard to put your full heart behind decisions which aren’t your own,” Cheryl told Fault magazine.

“I was young and there’s no telling if what I wanted would have been for the best commercially but at the time, they felt more like the right ones for me but I didn’t push enough for them.”

Cheryl added that she is “happy her confidence [has] grown” and that she can make “important and informed” decisions about her career.

She told the publication: “I’d rather have my music do awfully and hold the blame myself than do anything my heart isn’t truly in.”

Cheryl had previously vowed to quit music if her comeback with catchy track Love Made Me Do It failed to take off last year.

She told the Guardian Guide: “If it goes in at 80, it’s time for me to move on with my life. I’m not going to jump around working hard and spending time away from my son for that.”

The single – which she also performed on X Factor – peaked at number 19 in the charts before sliding down to number 48 ahead of its exit from the rankings.

Earlier in the week, Cheryl revealed new music is coming after months of speculation that her follow up would drop in March.

The Geordie star uploaded a brief clip from her new music video to Instagram, in which she and a group of backing dancers wearing neon outfits are jumping in the air.

She captioned the post: “Let you… coming FRIDAY!”
