Chelsea 'table bid' for loan transfer of PSG striker Edinson Cavani worth more than £12m

Chelsea have reportedly tabled a bid to Paris Saint-Germain to sign wantaway striker Edinson Cavani on loan.

The Blues and Manchester United have been linked with a swoop for Cavani who has expressed his desire to leave the French capital.

Atletico Madrid is understood to be Cavani’s preferred destination, but Chelsea have attempted to steal a march on the Spanish giants by making an approach to PSG, report The Times.

It is allegedly worth over £12million in all, with Cavani’s wages of over £360,000-a-week totalling £7.2million until the expiry of his contract in June, plus a loan fee of at least £5million.

PSG have already rebuffed a bid of £8.5million to sell Cavani from Atletico, and Chelsea boss Frank Lampard confirmed his desire to sign a forward.

Cavani is reportedly the subject of a loan bid from Chelsea

“You can’t say we will definitely sign a striker but we are looking,” he said “If you don’t score enough goals then you won’t win enough games.”

Lampard referred to Cavani, who has played just nine times in Ligue 1 so far this term, as a ‘great player’ and said he ‘loved his mentality and attitude’.

Tammy Abraham suffered a knock in Chelsea’s draw against Arsenal on Tuesday night and could face a spell on the sidelines, increasing the Blues’ need for a striker.

Abraham skidded into the advertising boards under a challenge by Gunners defender Rob Holding, winning a corner which saw Cesar Azpilicueta score.

He played on for the final minutes but was helped from the pitch at the end of the game.

“I don’t know how bad it is,” Lampard said. “I’m not angry at them, but we should have knocked [the ball] out.”
