Chelsea suffer further blow as Tammy Abraham pulls up in Bayern Munich warmdown

A terrible night for Chelsea appeared to get even worse on Tuesday when Tammy Abraham limped out of their warmdown after their 3-0 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich.

Two goals from former Arsenal player Serge Gnabry and another from Robert Lewandowski mean the Blues are facing mission impossible to qualify for the next round, and to make matters worse Marcos Alonso was sent off late on to rule him out of the second leg.

But even when it looked like the full-time whistle had put Frank Lampard out of his misery he received more bad news when Abraham had to leave the team’s warmdown at Stamford Bridge early.

Tammy Abraham was a substitute for Chelsea against Bayern Munich

The striker has been missing from action recently with a niggling injury but came on as a substitute in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over rivals Tottenham at the weekend.

He again appeared from the bench against Bayern, replacing Olivier Giroud with half-an-hour to go, and he was involved in a crunching tackle from Jerome Boateng, which it looked like he had managed to shake off.

But he was in clear discomfort after the game and there are now doubts over whether he will be fit for the game against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Journalist Alan Smith cast his eye over the warmdown and tweeted to say: “Tammy Abraham has appeared to pull up injured in Chelsea’s warmdown. Now limped down tunnel while other subs continued.”

The loss of his top scorer would be a big blow for Lampard, who admitted it was a night to forget for his team after the game.

“The performance was poor and sometimes you have to be brutally honest,” he said.

“They outclassed us in every department and it’s quite sobering.

“I learned about the players tonight. It was a learning curve. If you look at the choice of passes they make, our choices have to improve.

“If our players have a bit about them, which I think they do, they will look at who they were playing against and the level they need to work towards.

“But it was a clear there is a lot of work to be done and we have to take it on the chin.

“We will always play with pride but I’m more concerned about the bigger picture. How quickly can we recover for the Premier League?”
