Chelsea star N'Golo Kante heavily backed to make surprise Man Utd transfer

Manchester United’s odds of signing N’Golo Kante have been slashed after a flurry of bets, following reports claiming Chelsea are willing to sell the defensive midfielder.

Kante has been one of the Premier League’s star performers in recent seasons, winning back-to-back titles with Leicester City and Chelsea in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

During his time with the Blues, the tenacious ball-winner has made 170 appearances and also added FA Cup and Europa League winners’ medals to his cabinet.

But aged 29 and after an injury-struck campaign, Kante has reportedly been placed on the transfer list by Chelsea manager Frank Lampard.

There is no shortage of suitors for the World Cup winner, with Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus all potential destinations.

The odds of Kante joining United have plummeted

But, according to Oddschecker, Manchester United are clear front runners in the race to sign Kante and are priced at 1/2 with one bookie to get the deal over the line – far shorter than PSG at 7/1.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the market to reinforce his Red Devils squad this summer and defensive midfield is one area which proved a headache last season.

Fred performed well for patches, while Nemanja Matic’s displays in the centre of the park earned him a contract extension.

But there is a sense Paul Pogba is yet to be given the midfield partner he needs to thrive – and his France teammate Kante could be just that.

Now, a flurry of bets have been made tipping the World Cup winners to be united at Old Trafford.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson certainly believes the surprise transfer would benefit United, saying: “In what would be one of the more sensational transfers of the summer, it’s looking like N’Golo Kante’s potential move to Manchester United isn’t just whimsical gossip.

“Kante would be an excellent long-term replacement for Nemanja Matic at Old Trafford, although it’s unlikely Chelsea would happily sell him to United.”

Kante has three years remaining on his deal at Stamford Bridge after signing a five-year contract in 2018.

Though he struggled with a string of ankle and hamstring injuries last season, he made 28 appearances across all competitions and scored three times.
