Jose Mourinho believes Chelsea are the favourites to finish inside the top four, despite their struggles in 2020.

Mourinho, who has had two spells as Chelsea manager, takes his Tottenham Hotspur side back to Stamford Bridge on Saturday for a lunchtime showdown between the two top-four rivals.

Just one point separates the two teams before kick-off, with Sheffield United and Manchester United also within striking distance of Frank Lampard’s side.

Wolves, Everton and Arsenal remain mathematically in the hunt some seven points behind Chelsea, whose grip on the fourth and final Champions League spot has loosened in recent weeks – particularly after their defeat to Manchester United on Monday night.

While fifth place should be enough to secure Champions League football – after second-placed Manchester City were banned from the competition for two years – no one will want to take their chances, with fourth place guaranteeing a spot among Europe’s elite.

And ahead of the crunch tie between Spurs and Chelsea, Mourinho piled the pressure on his former employers by suggesting they’re in the driving seat to finish fourth.

‘At this moment, Tottenham, Manchester United, Arsenal, Sheffield United, Wolverhampton, Everton – we are the underdogs,’ he said.

‘We have ambitions to be there but we are one, two, three points behind Chelsea, so they have an advantage to all of us. That’s obvious. It’s not a big advantage but it is an advantage.

‘Chelsea in this moment is favourite for the fourth position, considering Leicester has nine points more at this stage of the season.’
