Chelsea icon believes Liverpool losing to Man City would not be a ‘disaster’

Liverpool losing to Manchester City on Sunday wouldn’t be a “disaster”.

That’s the opinion of Chelsea icon Craig Burley.

The Reds have the chance to go nine points clear at the summit on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently six points ahead of visiting City, and have a tough task on their hands at Anfield.

Liverpool are the current favourites to win the league – which would be their first Premier League title – but take on the defending champions tomorrow.

City will go into the game with a host of injuries plaguing their squad.

Ederson, Rodri, David Silva and Aymerick Laporte will all be out for the Citizens, while Leroy Sane is also set to miss out.

And due to their absentees, they are expected to take a much more defensive attitude tomorrow afternoon.

But Burley explained that due to Liverpool’s impressive lead at the top of the pile, they can even afford to lose the game.

“You look at Liverpool and see they’re unbeaten, then you look at the run from the end of last year,” he said on ESPN FC.

“Then you look at their record at home against City, it’s particularly good in recent years.

“Then look at the problems City have had – I don’t mean problems, they’re problems by their standards with the teams they’ve lost to.

“The other side of the coin is that whilst a defeat for Liverpool isn’t great, it’s clearly not a disaster.

“On the other hand, nine points – whilst not insurmountable, is a huge gap especially at this time of year.

”The pressure is firmly on Manchester City not to blow up.

“If they have another one of those [bad defensive performances] at Anfield, they could lose by two or three.”
