Chelsea hero Petr Cech sends message to Jose Mourinho after Tottenham appointment

Chelsea fans have been left disgruntled after Jose Mourinho took over as manager at one of their local rivals.

The Portuguese has won three Premier League titles with the Blues across two spells, but was sacked in December 2015 as the club sat 16th in the table.

Mourinho then managed Manchester United between 2016 and 2018, before he was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a poor run of form.

The 56-year-old has now been handed another opportunity in the Premier League by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, and he has received an outpour of support.

“He’s a great manager,” said Petr Cech when asked about Mourinho.

“Obviously it’s great for the Premier League to welcome back one of the most successful managers in the Premier League in the past 15 years.

“Obviously we wish him well.”

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has also wished his former boss good luck, despite them being direct rivals with his new club.

He told Sky Sports: “I can talk only when Jose was here at Chelsea with us.

“We won trophies, and now football moves on.

“I wish him all the best even though he goes to a rival.

“I have good memories with him and I have played many times under him and against him.

“Obviously when we play against each other we both want to win for our teams, but this is football. I wish him well.”

Mourinho mentioned the history and fanbase as reasons for joining Spurs, with his first game coming against West Ham on Saturday.

He added: “What can I promise? Passion, real passion.

“Passion for my job, but also passion for my club, that’s the way I have been all my career and I want to try, obviously, everything to bring happiness to everyone who loves the club.”
