Arsenal and Chelsea are both interested in signing Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, reports say.

The 22-year-old is a rising star in Brazil and has previously been linked with a transfer to London.

Scouts from Chelsea and Arsenal have watched Guimaraes in action for his club Athletico Paranaense and the Daily Mail claim the Premier League duo are weighing up making a move.

Arsenal could be about to lose Granit Xhaka after their former captain agreed personal terms with Hertha Berlin.

Xhaka’s agent made a public plea to Arsenal to facilitate his exit in January, although Arteta inits he wants the Switzerland international to stay.

‘What I can say internally we will have to face that situation,’ Arteta said about Xhaka’s possible departure.

‘And we’ll handle that with all the senior people in the directors area.’

While Arsenal assess replacements for Xhaka, Chelsea were tracking Guimaraes before they were hit with a transfer ban.

Chelsea were successful in their appeal against their ban and are now permitted to sign new players in January.

Frank Lampard reportedly has a £150m transfer kitty and could use some of that money to land Guimaraes.

Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense can name their price for Guimaraes, as he is under contract at the club until 2023.
