CHELSEA 1-0 MAN CITY

HT: Manchester City need to score two goals to prevent Liverpool from winning the Premier League title tonight. I’ve also gained an old photo which PROVES Jurgen Klopp planned this moment a decade ago…

45: Two minutes of added time.

42: Sorry, but I’m still sat here stunned by how appalling that defending from Manchester City was. Honestly, I’ve seen better defending in Sunday League. Pep Guardiola will need to address that – they’ve still got the FA Cup and Champions League to play for!

39: City should respond instantly. Kevin de Bruyne slips in Riyad Mahrez while Chelsea are sleeping and the Algeria star bends a signature effort win goal that rises over the crossbar.

CHELSEA 1-0 MAN CITY | PULISIC

36: GOAL! Chelsea have made the breakthrough courtesy of Christian Pulisic and Liverpool have taken a huge step to Premier League glory.

It’s actually comical defending from Manchester City. Serious, it made me laugh. Chelsea clear a corner in their penalty area and the US international beats both Benjamin Mendy and Ilkay Gundogan to the ball.

They look to have it covered by Pulisic easily waltzes past the full-back before striding clear and curling beyond Ederson. Liver-pulisic.

35: Three BIG Chelsea chances go begging – much to the disappointment of Liverpool fans around the country. Ross Barkley drills a cross into the six-yard box that Ederson parries. It’s collected by Mason Mount, who plays a neat one-two in a tight space before sending it back across goal for Barkley to smash against Fernandinho.

The corner comes in from Willian and Andreas Christensen rises highest to test Ederson from point-blank range. Great passage from the hosts and I’m stunned they haven’t made the breakthrough.

33: City are a nightmare to plan for. Obviously no traditional striker playing tonight and that leaves a very ‘fluid’ rotation up front. Everyone’s taking a turn to be the centre-forward, quite surprised Ederson hasn’t given it a go. Yet.

30: The pundits have been taking a pop at Ross Barkley for having failed to score a Premier League goal in 20 months. Wow, that is actually quite staggering. Anyway, he rifles an angled effort towards goal but Fernandinho is there to deflect it wide.

27: Kevin De Bruyne’s effort is blocked by a blue shirt before Fernandinho is penalised by referee Stuart Attwell. No sign of the visitors relenting here.

24: The sun has disappeared over the Matthew Harding Stand but it is still a very warm evening and Chelsea are having to chase the ball an awful lot here. It doesn’t look a fun task.

Drinks break. Liverpool are 24 minutes closer to winning the title.

21: Ross Barkley and Christian Pulisic are caught napping when a Manchester City free-kick is delivered from the left. Fernandinho glides clear of the pair and glances a header that Kepa tips over the crossbar.

18: Kepa Arrizabalaga clearly didn’t watch the Southampton match. Alex McCarthy gifted the opener to Arsenal and the Chelsea stopper nearly did the same. Bernardo Silva nicks it off the dithering goalkeeper but can’t convert it through a crowd of bodies.

15: Chance! Nice interplay from Chelsea there, sparked by a delightful back heel from Olivier Giroud. Willian crosses the ball into the middle but there’s Ilkay Gundogan to clear for a corner. Fernandinho clears to Mason Mount, who skies it.

13: Benjamin Mendy gets to the byline and drills a dangerous ball in towards the near post. Kepa deals with it and the subsequent corner. City not hanging around tonight.

10: “What do you reckon is going on in Liverpool tonight, Macca?” asks the BT Sport commentator. “TV’s in the garden and lots of beer. Nice and cold beer,” responds Steve Steve McManaman, who sounds like he’s dreaming of a tall, frosty one himself.

8: I was going to discuss Pep Guardiola’s decision to start this match without a recognised centre-forward – but they went to the Bernabeu and beat Real Madrid without one earlier this season – so who cares really.

5: It probably won’t surprise you to hear that Manchester City have settled nice and quickly. Kevin De Bruyne is pulling the strings in midfield and releases Ilkay Gundogan to win the first corner of the evening.

It’s not a very good delivery and it fails to beat the first man. Nothing makes my blood boil more.

3: Well from a selfish (and neutral) point-of-view I’d like to see Liverpool HAVE to win the title against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Would be more of a spectacle y’know…

How’s it started? Slowly. I’m not going to take a pop just yet because we’ve only had three minutes of action.

CHELSEA 0-0 MAN CITY

1: And we’re underway at Stamford Bridge. Apologies for being ridiculous late to start this coverage – covering a historic occasion like Arsenal winning requires a little bit of time.

Anyway, you know what’s up for grabs tonight. Liverpool will be crowned Premier League champions if Manchester City drop points. More importantly for Chelsea fans – a win restores their five-point advantage over Manchester United in the battle for Champions League qualification.

Evening…

Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of Chelsea vs Manchester City from Stamford Bridge.

Quite an unusual evening for Frank Lampard and Pep Guardiola – with most of the attention surrounding the fixture centred on Liverpool.

That is, of course, because Jurgen Klopp’s side could be crowned champions if the visitors fail to collect maximum points.

I’m currently occupied with Arsenal’s trip to Southampton but will be with you as soon as that match finishes.

In the meantime, the team news and line ups will appear here ASAP. Standby.
