Travel writer Rebecca Andrews decided on the brazen move to avoid paying AUS$60 (£31) for her luggage.

As she was travelling with Australian airline Jetstar, she wasn’t allowed more than 7kg in her hand luggage.

She decided to try and avoid the extra fee on her Melbourne to Sydney flight.

In a video she posted on Instagram, Rebecca wore a leopard print jumpsuit to be able to hold items on her body.

She put a laptop case down her back, which she kept in place by the straps of her jumpsuit.

She first wrapped her laptop cords into a circle to form the 'bump'

She also wrapped her laptop charger in some clothes which she then put on her stomach as a baby bump.

To complete the look, Rebecca then layered normal clothes including jeans, a jumper and jacket.

Loose clothing was advised to be able to hide the bump easily.

She advised practising the technique at home, but only doing it when you’re through security at the airport.

Rebecca recommended heading to the bathroom after bags have been checked to get re-dressed “preggo”.

She explained on Escape her attempt in getting on the flight with her “bump”

She said: “I walked very erectly (TIP: you have to keep your shoulders back, you’ll find out why in a second) to the gate, and found I was the LAST person to board my flight.”

However – she ended up being caught by flight crew at the last minute.

She added that boarding last was her “only mistake” as it meant all the attention was on her.

Rebecca almost got away with it, after crew weighed her bag at the boarding gate, which they said was the correct weight.

However, she then dropped her plane ticket on the floor which proved to be her downfall.

She said: “As I bent over to pick up the ticket, the shape of my laptop down my back suddenly became apparent.”

Flight crew then asked her if she had a backpack on under her jacket, before saying: “There is something there.”

Despite trying to claim that she was just wearing more clothing because she was cold, crew made her pay the additional $60.

Rebecca added that it wouldn’t stop her trying it again in the future, though.

She said: “But honestly, if my carry-on was ever overweight I would do it again and just make sure I was not the last person to board.”

She also said in the video: “If you try this and get busted, this video 100 per cent does not exist. Don’t sue me please.”

Despite failing, social media users loved her attempt, with one saying: “LOL you are hilarious”.

One woman had another technique to avoid paying more for her baggage by wearing 2kg of her clothes.

A Thomas Cook passenger was called ‘Joey from Friends’ after she wore four dresses, two pairs of shorts and a top around her neck when her suitcase weighed too much.

Another traveller wore 15 tops to avoid a £96 baggage fee.
