Cheapest airport lounge revealed – you could get access to lounges for £20 or less

Airport lounges provide the opportunity to kick back and relax before you board your flight – and some lounges will only set you back £20 or less.

Taking a look at the UK’s most popular airports, Globehunters has researched the cost of using their lounges to reveal the cheapest airport lounges in the UK to see how Britons can upgrade their flying experience and take it to the next level.

For each airport, Globehunters looked at the cost of pre-booked lounge access for one person on August 1, 2019 (some lounges offer cheaper access during the winter months).

From their research, the cheapest airport lounge in the UK was City of Derry Airport’s Amelia Earhart Lounge in Northern Ireland.

Their luxury lounge, which includes complimentary alcoholic drinks, tea and coffee, snacks and free internet access, costs only £12.50 per person.

City of Derry Airport is followed by Newquay Airport, whose Executive Lounge costs £15.00 per person for entry.

In a statement on their website, Globehunters said: “When you’re heading away on holiday, all you want to do is put your feet up and relax, but getting through the airport can be anything but relaxing.

“Airport lounges are a great way to take a load off and enjoy a bite to eat and a drink before you board the plane, but many are often put off by the cost.

“However, lounge access doesn’t necessarily have to cost the earth, and in many cases, you could wind up spending a similar amount on food and drink anyway.”

These affordable airport lounges pale in comparison to others, including the most expensive in the UK, London City Airport’s First Class Lounge which cost £95pp.

Making the most of your holiday experience from the flight to the hotel is key for many travellers along with making a saving.

Martin Lewis, the MoneySavingExpert, has shared a top tip for holidaymakers seeking cheap flights. Mr Lewis spoke to ITV’s This Morning to reveal his hack for bagging holidays on the cheap. The trick, he explained, is to make the most of “Flexi Fares”.

These types of tickets are offered by budget airline easyJet – they let you switch dates by a few weeks without paying anything extra.

Lewis advises buying this fare on a cheaper day and then later changing it to the date you really want – ideal for those wanting to get away during the school holidays when prices typically rise.

“Book a ‘Flexi Fare’ on the same route at a less busy time when flights are cheaper, then provided there’s capacity, 24 hours after booking you can switch to the dates you originally wanted at no extra charge, possibly saving you £100s,” he said.

However, it’s key to be aware there are still restrictions when it comes to moving the flight.

“You can only move the phantom ticket one week earlier or three weeks later, so don’t just book any old date,” clarified Mr Lewis.
