Cheaper Thomas Cook holidays on the horizon as travel company details rescue plan

THOMAS Cook announced details of its rescue plan today, as well as its forecast for the coming months.

And it’s good news for Brits looking for a bargain break this year as the trend for cheaper holidays looks like it’s going to continue.

Thomas Cook said in its statement that while 75 per cent of its holidays were sold this year, “margins remain weak due to continued intense competition with high levels of promotional activity across all businesses.”

It was part of the announcement around its rescue plan.

And the company has suggested that the trend is set to continue into the second half of this year.

Indeed, right now the company is offering up to £300 off selected breaks and its 2020 holidays are already part of a summer sale with thousands of kids places offered for free.

Even in peak season this summer, there are deals to be had for those still looking for last-minute bargains.

For example, Sun Online Travel found that a three-night break to the Algarve, staying at the four-star Hotel Vila Gale Nautico on a half board basis, starts from just £239 per person in August.

And three-nights at the five-star Sentido Mallorca Palace in Majorca on a bed and breakfast basis starts from £259 per person in July.

Both of these deals includes return flights with checked luggage as well as transfers.

There are even better deals if you go after the peak summer season.

The cheapest deal for Crete, for example, starts from just £119 per person if you stay at Dionysos Studios & Apartments in early October – and that’s for a seven-night self-catered break with accommodation, flights and transfers.

For worried Brits, the company has reassured its customers that any holidays booked with the travel giant are protected.

There’s a lot of competition in the travel industry at the moment, which is why many companies are offering great bargains, including holidays for under £99.

Corfu was previously revealed as the cheapest family holiday destination this summer.
