London based singer Charlotte Awbery has become a viral sensation after she was stopped and asked to sing as she made her way through the London Underground.
In a game called ‘finish the lyric’, Vlogger Kevin Freshwater approached her and began to sing a lyric from Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s hit Shallow. Freshwater was left awestruck when Awbery took up the challenge.
As she showed off her impressive vocals, Freshwater could be heard saying “wow” and encouraging her to continue.
Since posting Awbery’s impromptu performance online, the video has been viewed over 60 million times.

Who is Charlotte Awbery?
Awbery is a full-time singer and songwriter from Romford, London. In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Awbery explained that she makes a living by singing at weddings, pubs, clubs, bars and restaurants.
The talented performer has been singing for 15 years and credited her dad for encouraging her to sing.
“[He always told me] wherever you are, just always sing. Never give up and he’s right,” she said.
Since the video went viral, Awbery’s social media following has seen a massive surge – going from 4,000 Instagram followers to over 500,000 since the video was released.
Why is she a viral sensation?
Awbery was on her way to meet a friend in London when she was stopped by prankster Kevin Freshwater in a tube station.
As he sang a lyric from Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s hit song, Shallow, he put a microphone in front of her and asked her to finish the lyric. Without hesitation, Awbery continued to sing the song much to the surprise of Freshwater.
She continued to perform after being encouraged by Freshwater to do so.
Having posted the clip on his social media page, his followers praised Awbery’s talent and it didn’t take long before the short video was being shared everywhere. Due to the video’s popularity, Shallow re-entered the top 40 iTunes chart and Ariana Grande followed Awbery on Instagram.
Who is Kevin Freshwater?
Freshwater describes himself as a “viral video creator, entertainer, prankster and purveyor of comic content”.
He has a strong social media following with over 1.5 million followers on Facebook and 365,000 followers on Instagram.
Freshwater recently recalled, during an on The Ellen DeGeneres show, what happened after he approached Awbery to sing .
“I do a lot of different style of content but this one has just been released. I was out in London for two weeks approaching so many different and random people and then I came across Charlotte and she just blew me away,” he told the host.
What’s next for Charlotte Awbery?
Awbery has revealed that she will be releasing her own music in the future.
In an Instagram post documenting her time on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Awbery, who was given £10,000 by DeGeneres on the show, thanked her friends and family for their support before teasing her plans.
“So!! The secrets out. I’ll be on the @theellenshow show today from 3 pm LA time and I’m so excited!!! Also can I just say to all my friends and family that have been with me from day one watching, supporting and cheering me on thank you so much, without you lot I probably would of stopped a long time ago.
“Also I want to say thank you to all my new followers for the lovely comments you’ve left me. I’m glad I’m making you happy and can’t wait to show you all some of my own music xx,” she wrote.
