Charlize Theron recalls major movie producer being inappropriate with her

Charlize Theron recalls the time a movie producer with ‘a very healthy ego’ was inappropriate towards her on her first audition

Charlize Theron has revealed her first ever audition ended abruptly after a big name movie producer acted inappropriately towards her.

The actress sat down with Howard Stern alongside her Long Shot costar Seth Rogen on his SiriusXM radio show on Monday.

Charlize said the encounter happened when she was 18 or 19 after her modelling agent set up the audition to take place at the producer’s house at 9pm on a Saturday.

‘I don’t think she had a clue, like, “I guess this is what they do”. He was a very big deal and is still a big deal.

‘I knocked on the door and he opened the door and he was in his pajamas,’ the 43-year-old actress recalled.

Asked by Stern if she turned around, Charlize said, ‘I should’ve, I didn’t.’

‘He had a very healthy ego, he felt very good about himself. There was some kind of musak playing’ Charlize joked of the unnamed producer.

The Tully star said that the Hollywood exec sat very close to her and was drinking, which made her feel uncomfortable.

She offered to read a script for him but was told they were ‘just gonna talk’.

She said, ‘At one point he put his hand on my knee and that’s when I just went ‘oof’.

Years later the Oscar-winner star said she finally got to confront the producer about that night.

‘It took me eight years for this thing to come full circle because he offered me a job and I went purely just to have my moment,’ she told Stern.

Charlize revealed that the exec didn’t remember meeting her.

‘He said nice to meet you and I said “no, we’ve met before” and he had no recollection of it… and his producing partner was standing right next to him and he was embarrassed.’

The actress said she walked him through their encounter, describing exactly what happened – including the pajamas.

‘He said “Wow, I do not remember that”‘.

Charlize refused to name the studio big wig, however, when speaking out in 2017 amid the #MeToo movement furor, she ruled out being one of Harvey Weinstein’s alleged victims.

She wrote on Instagram at the time: ‘The women who have spoken about their abuse are brave and heroic and although I didn’t have a personal experience like this with Harvey Weinstein, I unfortunately cannot say I’m surprised.

‘This culture has always existed, not just in Hollywood but across the world. And many men in positions of power have gotten away with it for far too long.’

Who was it? Charlize didn't name the major producer who she met with but in 2017 she revealed Harvey Weinstein was not someone she had encountered in that way
