‘Social media feeds this impossible version’: Pregnant Seven star Edwina Bartholomew slams unrealistic portrayals of motherhood online

Channel Seven’s Edwina Bartholomew is five months pregnant with her first child.

And on Friday, the 36-year-old comically slammed unrealistic portrayals of pregnancy on social media.

Writing a column in The Daily Telegraph, Edwina said the experience of carrying a child differed greatly in real life than what she scrolls past on Instagram.

The TV star said she had ‘visions of being Meghan Markle pregnant’, only to find out she was more ‘Amy Schumer pregnant’.

‘Social media keeps feeding me this impossible version of pregnancy. Well it’s clearly possible for some ladies, but no good for me,’ she said.

Talented Edwina added a touch of tongue-in-cheek commentary to the column, adding she was jealous of the ‘hot baby mamas’ she saw on Instagram.

‘These smokin’ hot baby mammas pop up on my feed with their thin legs, round little protrusions and perky breasts …. Jealous? You betcha.’

Turning her attention to other women, Edwina masterfully said it was important not to listen to all the advice that people have for pregnancy.

‘The best piece of advice that I was given at the very beginning of pregnancy was a warning that I would get lots of advice, and I should ignore most of it.’

Speaking of the changes in her body, she said she has learned to embrace it even if it has become uncomfortable.

‘Those bingo wings will cradle your baby, your ginormous breasts will feed your child and that giant a*se will support you as you spend hours staring at your little miracle.’

The secret's out! Edwina said on air, 'We're super stoked and our family is really excited. Mum has been bursting at the seams to tell everyone - so mum, you can tell everyone!'

Edwina married Neil Varcoe, a digital media executive, on April 21, 2018 at their restored farmhouse in Lithgow, New South Wales.

She wore a vintage wedding dress that had been worn by three generations of her family, including her beloved grandmother in 1944.

The gown had been specially altered for her nuptials by Cappellazzo Couture.

The couple first met as colleagues at radio station 2GB, and had been together for six years when Neil proposed in April 2017.
