AJAX must surely be preparing for life after De Ligt – who was once again an absolute rock at the heart of defence against Juventus.
The result wasn’t perfect, but he joins Barcelona’s Pique – who kept a clean sheet at Old Trafford – and Spurs’ Vertonghen in a back-three.

ONLY one United player truly walked off the Old Trafford turf with any shred of credibility – McTominay.
The Scottish youngster played with incredible maturity in the middle of the park against seasoned veterans in the 1-0 loss.
He’s joined by Liverpool’s Keita who has finally looked every inch the £52million player he was supposed to be – even scoring the early opener against Porto.
De Jong – joining Barcelona in the summer – also impressed along with the ever-consistent Spurs superstar Eriksen.
FORWARDS
Cristiano Ronaldo, Roberto Firmino, Son Heung-min
FIRMINO scored Liverpool’s other goal on the night, while Ronaldo netted Juventus’ only goal away to Ajax.
But the real striking hero this week has to be Son.
Moments after Harry Kane limped off injured, the South Korean struck the all-important winner against giants Man City in a major boost to their Champions League chances.
