Chadwick Boseman cut his salary for 21 Bridges to boost Sienna Miller’s pay

Sienna Miller has revealed how her 21 Bridges co-star Chadwick Boseman took a pay cut so that she would receive the salary she asked for.

The actress, 38, appeared alongside the late Black Panther star in the thriller in 2019.

She told Empire that she was initially undecided about taking on the role of an NYPD officer in the film and was close to turning down the part after the studio declined to meet her salary expectations.

However Boseman, who also served as a producer on the film, then offered to boost her salary by reducing his own pay.

“This was a pretty big budget film, and I know that everybody understands about the pay disparity in Hollywood, but I asked for a number that the studio wouldn’t get to,” Miller told the magazine.

“And because I was hesitant to go back to work and my daughter was starting school and it was an inconvenient time, I said, ‘I’ll do it if I’m compensated in the right way.’

“Chadwick ended up donating some of his salary to get me to the number that I had asked for. He said that that was what I deserved to be paid.”

She revealed that she was “astounded” by Boseman’s offer and admitted it was difficult to imagine other actors “behaving that graciously or respectfully.”

“That kind of thing doesn’t just happen,” she said. “He said, ‘You’re getting paid what you deserve, and what you’re worth.’ It’s just unfathomable to imagine another man in that town behaving that graciously or respectfully.

“There was no showiness, it was ‘Of course I’ll get you to that number, because that’s what you should be paid.’”

Boseman died last month at the age of 43, four years after he was diagnosed with colon cancer.

The actor chose to keep his illness out of the public eye, with just a handful of close friends and family aware of his diagnosis.
