Celine Dion ‘terribly sorry’ after postponing four concerts due to throat virus

Celine Dion has been forced to postpone concerts due to a throat virus.

The Canadian singer delayed the first four shows of her Montreal concert tour, with her event promoter saying she needs a week off to “recuperate completely” from the health issue.

The 51-year-old was expected to start the Montreal leg of her tour on Thursday but will now perform the shows in November, resting for a week to recover from a virus affecting her throat.

“Under strict orders from her doctor, Céline must take a week of rest to recuperate completely, and intends to take the stage at the Bell Centre on Friday, Oct. 4 and Saturday, Oct. 5, as planned,” event promoter Evenko wrote in a statement.

“Céline Dion, Concerts West/ AEG Presents and Evenko are sincerely sorry for the inconvenience this may cause,” the concert promoters said.

The My Heart Will Go On singer started her new world tour, named after her latest album Courage, in her hometown of Quebec City on September 18.

In a post that now appears to have been removed from her Facebook, the 51-year-old apologised to fans.

She wrote: “I am terribly sorry to have to postpone four of my shows at the Bell Centre. I cannot wait to see you. Thank you for your understanding and see you soon in Montreal.”

The Montreal concerts slated for 26, 27 and 30 September and 1 October have been moved to 18, 19, 20 and 21 November, with fans able to use their original tickets for the new dates.

The star recently said her husband Renee, who died in 2016, wanted her to continue her career, and she wants to prove she has the strength to sing on stage.

She said: “Before he went to his other life, Renee wanted me back on stage.

“Life had given me the tools to keep going, to find courage.

As part of her Courage World Tour, Dion announced newly added dates to perform in Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and London.

She last performed in the country for British Summer Time Festival in London’s Hyde this year.

Tickets for UK dates go on sale on October 4.

Standard Online has contacted reps for Celine Dion for further comment.
