Celine Dion left fans emotional when she paused her recent concert in Miami to pay tribute to her mother, Therese Tanguay Dion, who had died the night before.

Therese passed away at age 92 on Thursday night in Montreal, surrounded by family including Celine.

Not wanting to miss a performance, the singer went ahead with her Friday night show, addressing the sad news onstage.

‘I’m pretty sure that you heard the news about my mom passing away early this morning,’ she said.

She went on to reassure fans: ‘But I’m doing okay and we’re all okay.’

Celine added that she knew her mother had been ill for quite a while, and that she had received a call a couple of days earlier from a nurse to tell her ‘her time was coming soon.’

‘So last night I joined my brothers and sisters in Montreal, and I spent the evening at her bedside,’ she told fans.

‘We told stories. We sang songs. We hugged each other and we said our goodbyes.’

The musician added: ‘We are pretty sure that mom waited for us to be all together one more time.’

With the audience cheering, she told them: ‘I know she wanted me to be the best of myself tonight and I also know that she wanted all of you to have the time of your life.’

Fans were stunned at the star’s strength, with many sending her messages of support.

Sharing a photo on Twitter before the concert, Celine wrote: ‘Mom, we love you so much …We dedicate the show to you tonight and I will sing for you with all my heart. Love, Céline xx…’

It’s been an emotional week for the My Heart Will Go On hitmaker, as Therese’s death comes just two days after the fourth anniversary of the death of Celine’s husband, Rene Angelil, and Thursday also marked the fourth anniversary of the passing of her brother Daniel.

Celine, 51, is currently on her Courage World Tour and earlier took to social media to mark the anniversary of her husband’s passing, where she thanked him for ‘watching over’ her and their sons René-Charles, 19, and 10-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson.
