Celebrity X Factor and X Factor All Stars – what’s the difference and when do they both start?

VIEWERS were told back in February that Simon Cowell would scrap the normal X Factor this year in favour of a respective Celebrity and All-Stars version instead.

While it’s unclear on whether the old format will make a comeback in the future, here are all the details you need to know regarding the upcoming season that’s bound to include some very notable names.

When does it start?

While ITV has yet to announce an official start date, the show is usually known to return in August or the first Saturday of September.

With that said, it’s not clear whether or not there will actually be a process in which celebrities have to audition before passing to the next stage – a traditional format the show had followed since first launching in 2003.

Given that, aside from Simon Cowell, it’s still not known who will be joining the judging panel line-up; it’s still up in the air on when the celebrity version of X-Factor will actually premiere.

One thing that hasn’t changed, however, is that ITV will continue to distribute the show whenever it does return to our television screens this year.

There will reportedly be two editions of the X Factor, with the second one being strictly for the all-stars of the show.

This would evidently see the return to some of the most notable names viewers had been introduced to over the course of 15 years.

Who are the rumoured contestants for the 2019 series?

Rumour has it that reality star Gemma Collins is one of the names that X Factor bosses are very much interested in signing on for the forthcoming season.

If she was to join the line-up, she would potentially be joining her on-again, off-again pal James Argent, who is also said to be in talks to join the reality show competition.

“Gemma and Arg are perfect for Celebrity X Factor,” a source revealed.

“They can both hold a tune but they’re not quite professionals, so there is still room for improvement.

They will have the right mix of confidence and nerves. And they’re both big personalities.”

While a rugby player boyband will be rumoured to consist of sportsmen Thom Evans, Ben Foden and Levi Davis.

TV star Ricki Lake and Strictly’s Brendan Cole have had their names thrown in the hat, as has hard man Vinnie Jones.

The Chase’s Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan, actor John Barrowman and actress Olivia Olson could also take part.

While TOWIE star turned country singer Megan Mckenna is also being linked to the show.

David Walliams

Meanwhile, Britain’s Got Talent judges David Walliams and Amanda Holden are said to be of interest to X Factor producers.

Neither one of them has publicly addressed reports concerning their potential involvement with Simon’s revamped show, but it’s certainly a possibility given the close relationship the duo shares with Cowell.

Speaking of Walliams trying his luck and signing on as a contestant, Simon told the Daily Mirror: “I think David [Walliams] might enter, seriously, that would be amazing.”

Reportedly, a £3 million budget has been set aside for ITV bosses to sign on significant public figures that will make the show worth watching.

Love Island supergroup

It’s also being rumoured that former Love Island stars are also being considered for the line-up, with TV stars Eyal Booker, Samira Mighty, Wes Nelson and Zara McDermott having formed a supergroup ahead of the show.

Their involvement in Celebrity X Factor has not been confirmed by ITV just yet, but according to sources Simon thinks it’d be a great idea to welcome reality stars from the ITV2 programme – presumably also for the sake of boosting ratings.

“Show boss Simon Cowell has long-admired Love Island and its pulling power. So when the idea of a Love Island supergroup was raised he thought it was great,” said an insider to The Sun.

“They’re not signed yet, but the four have been discussing songs and how they’d approach the show, so it looks very likely. They’re all confident that they can hold a tune.”

Kevin McHale

On July 12, The Sun reported that former Glee star Kevin McHale had joined the forthcoming series after impressing show bosses with his singing abilities.

His involvement with Glee, playing Artie Abrams, saw him record covers to some of the biggest songs over the course of six years (2009-2015), so this should be a walk in the park for the Hollywood star.

He was in the running to host X Factor USA but missed out on the chance before the show’s sudden cancellation.

Jonny Labey

Jonny won the nation over while playing Paul Coker on EastEnders, who became Ben Mitchell’s late love interest.

Others may know him for also having won ITV’s celebrity dance competition titled Dance Dance Dance in 2017, so one thing is for sure – Jonny is multi-talented.

He reportedly impressed X Factor bosses while auditioning out in Los Angeles, but an announcement confirming his position on the show has yet to be made.

Brendan Cole

Following his shock exit from Strictly Come Dancing in 2018, Brendan Cole seems to be swapping his dancing shoes for an opportunity to showcase his singing abilities.

The Sun revealed how producers had been hoping to sign the dancer for the forthcoming series, with a source explaining how the feisty star would be a huge addition to the line-up.

“Brendan is a big character and the bosses are sure that he will be a big draw for their audience”, an insider gushed.

“His Strictly fans aside, they are expecting people to tune in to see how his singing compares to his dancing”.

John Barrowman

Former Desperate Housewives star John Barrowman has made it no secret that he would love to take part in the upcoming season of Celebrity X Factor.

Though it’s unclear whether he’s been formally approached just yet, in a recent interview with Metro, the actor made it no secret that he would be interested if the opportunity came along.

“I’d love to do it”, he told the Metro.

“It’s one of those things where if I’m asked I’d do it, like anything, I’d do it at the drop of a hat as long as I know I’m gonna have fun doing it”.

Megan McKenna

Joining Celebrity X Factor would ultimately reunite Megan McKenna with Simon Cowell.

In case you forgot, the TV personality took part in 2009’s Britain’s Got Talent as part of Harmony – a two-piece girl group that made it all the way to the semi-finals.

Simon wasn’t fond of them at all, going as far as to describe their singing as “atrocious.”

But it goes without saying that Megan has made quite a name for herself over the last couple of years, and since launching her solo career, many would agree that her singing is actually pretty decent.

Megan joining Celebrity X Factor would be a great decision.

What’s the difference between the regular X Factor, Celebrity and All Stars version?

The regular format of the show would see ordinary contestants audition in front of three (or four) judges, hoping that they will advance to the next round, which was famously known as Bootcamp.

From there, the panel will collectively choose 24 acts – which are divided by six for each category – for the next round where judges find out which category they will mentor for the series.

Currently, it’s not clear whether X Factor All Stars and Celebrity  X Factor will stick to this particular format, particularly since neither will be auditioning for a place on the show.

Some fans seem to think that the new spin-offs will go straight to the live shows, subsequently leaving out the famous Bootcamp stage, judges’ houses, among other things.

As more information develops, we’ll be sure to keep you informed.

What is the winner’s prize?

Traditionally, the winner receives a £1 million record deal under Syco Music, while their winning single is usually known to land the Christmas Number 1 spot.

In recent years, however – and with the ratings decreasing – previous winners of the show have failed to land the Christmas top spot.

This begs the question of whether X Factor bosses will be looking to switch things up and offer more than just a recording contract in the forthcoming series.
