The world pronounces her last name as Tee-gan, but it’s actually Tie-gan.

Well, the Lip Synch Battle host – who is of Norwegian and Thai descent – confirmed this on Twitter: ‘Word! gave up a long time ago. last name is tie-gen not tee-gen.’

Kesha

Next up is Kesha, full name is Kesha Rose Sebert, who used a TikTok video to clear things up.

When asked, ‘Tell me what your name is and then tell me what people mispronounce it as,’ she replied: ‘My name is Kesha. Keh-sha. Not Kee-Sha. Not Ketchup. Kesha.’

Kesha’s singer-songwriter mom, Pebe Sebert, explained in her own TikTik video: The name Kesha’s actually a Hungarian family name… the name is actually pronounced Ket-ta-cha in Hungarian and so I decided to make it easier and to make it Kesha. And that’s where Kesha came from.’

We can thank Justin’s uncle for revealing the error of our ways as he called out Justin for saying his last name wrong in public.

In an interview with Apple TV+, Paul Theroux stated: ‘The main character is played by Justin Theroux, my nephew… Sometimes he calls himself Justin Tha-row [laughs]. It’s a French name, it’s Tha-roo.’

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande has previously revealed her last name is less like the coffee, and more rhymes with candy.

A video of the singer pronouncing her name as ‘Grandy’ and not ‘Granday’ left fans very shook, indeed.

Amanda Seyfried

Most people flit between ‘Say-freed’ or ‘Sea-fred’ when trying to say the Mean Girls star’s name.

Both are wrong because it’s actually pronounced ‘Sigh-fred’.

Amanda confirmed as much during the announcement of Oscar nominations by Brad Pitt as she tweeted: ‘Correct pronunciation of “Seyfried” by Brad Pitt. Thank you, @theacademy.’

Jake Gyllenhaal

There is no way anyone actually says this famous last name correctly. It’s actually pronounced… Yee-Len-Hey-Lo!

During an interview in 2021, Jake joked that ‘only two places that that is pronounced correctly, my last name, is in Sweden and in Ikea.’

Charlize Theron

Some people think it rhymes with heron, while others say it sounds like gone – but both are wrong.

The actress’ name comes from a French background so its more similar to throne (Ther-own).

In Afrikaans, her name is pronounced Shar-leeze Thrawn, but she’s opted for Ther-in because she thinks it’s easier to say.

Gal Gadot

The Wonder Woman actress explained that her name – which means Riverbank in Hebrew – is actually pronounced guh-dote.

Fun fact, her original last name used to be Greenstein.

Martin Scorsese

We all say it as Scor-say-zee but it actually Scor-sess-see.

The director even says so himself in the fifth series of Entourage.

Khloe Kardashian

According to Andy Cohen, we need to start paying proper attention to the accent on the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star’s name.

He stated: ‘‘Yes, it’s Khloe [Khlo-Ay]. [Khlo-Ay]’s the name.’

However, the pronunciation isn’t one used by her family as he told Jimmy Fallon: ‘I walked in, I go [Khlo-Ay] and the other women go, “Excuse me?”

‘And Kris [Jenner] said, “Yeah, that’s actually really how it’s pronounced”. There’s a little thing on top of the name, why am I the only one that got that? I got the memo.’

So there you have it. Go forth and pronounce these names with confidence.
