A CELEBRITY chef has been arrested after he was caught using cannabis to “experiment with new flavours”.
Chef Carmelo Chiaramonte is famous in Italy as a TV personality and a chef at the Katane Palace Hotel in Sicily.
He told police that he was working on the new flavours for “contemporary cuisine” according to The Local Italy.
Carmelo, who hosted a TV cooking show, was found in the possession of two large marijuana plants and 1kg of Indian hemp.
Other items found at his home included cannabis-infused wine, coffee, olives and tuna, which were taken by police.
In one of the shows called “Immoral Recipes and Aphrodisiac Foods,” he previously said that cooks were like a “drug addict and an alchemist”.
The chef, who lives in the village of Trecastagni near Mount Etna, told police that he was an “agro-food consultant for third millennium cuisine”.
He has been released pending a trial.
Hotels in the US are offering food and drink infused with cannabis to be delivered to your door.
Nine states have legalised the sale of cannabis oil – something which is not currently legal in Italy.
The first cannabis hotel opened in the UK last year.
