CAN’T get your day started without a caffeine fix?

A fancy coffee may be one of life’s essentials, but it can be a costly habit that hits your wallet hard.

To celebrate National Barista Day today, why not recreate some of your favourite hot treats at home on the cheap?

THANKS A LATTE: If you like a Greggs caramel latte or a McDonald’s toffee latte, you can make your own with a few simple low-cost ingredients.

Combine milk and brown sugar in a pan over a medium heat for a few minutes. Whisk in caramel sauce. Mix in coffee. Whisk until foamy, or use a handheld milk frother.

Pick up Monin caramel syrup (250ml) for £3 at Tesco, and get your hands on the KitchenCraft Le’Xpress Venezia Frother for £6.79 from Amazon.

IT’S A FRAP: If you salivate at the sound of a Starbucks white chocolate mocha frappuccino, start by melting some white chocolate and adding a little milk.

Put around six ice cubes and half a cup of coffee into a blender, add the white chocolate mixture and blend well. Pour into a cup and top with whipped cream.

Asda’s Everyday Essentials white chocolate (100g) costs 30p, and its fresh whipping cream (300ml) is £1.20.

A BIT FRUITY: For a cheaper take on a Starbucks strawberries-and-cream frappuccino, try blending a cup of milk with eight strawberries, some ice cubes, a teaspoon of vanilla extract and a couple of teaspoons of sugar, to taste.

Then add some whipped cream on the top — and you’re good to go.

THAT’S MINT: For a homemade take on Costa’s Aero mint hot chocolate, mix a quarter of a teaspoon of peppermint extract into your hot chocolate and top with whipped cream.

Dr Oetker American Peppermint extract is £1.35 at Tesco.

WHIP UP A TREAT: Dalgona coffees have become wildly popular on TikTok. Make the frothy iced drink by whisking together instant coffee and water until smooth and creamy.

Get a glass of ice, add a bit of vanilla syrup, fill with milk and top with whipped cream.
