Two months after the debut of the well-received dark comedy anthology, CBS All Access has chosen to greenlight a second season for Why Women Kill from Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Why Women Kill has had a phenomenal first season,” said Julie McNamara, executive vp original content at CBS All Access. “Under the creative direction of Marc Cherry and the incredible performances of the cast, the series has become one of our most streamed original series. We look forward to bringing fans even more of this wonderfully soapy dramedy in its second season and can’t wait to see what themes Marc explores next.

Why Women Kill will follow the story of three women living in three different decades: a housewife in the ‘60s, a socialite in the ‘80s and a lawyer in 2018, each dealing with infidelity in their marriages. The series will examine how the roles of women have changed, but how their reaction to betrayal has not.

The series will be starring Emmy Award-nominated actress Lucy Liu (Elementary) as Simone, Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon a Time) as Beth Ann and Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Killing Eve) as Taylor along with Alexandra Daddario (San Andreas) as Jade, Reid Scott (Veep) as Eli, Sam Jaeger (Parenthood) as Rob and Jack Davenport as Karl. Sadie Calvano, Leo Howard, Alice Coppola, and Katie Finneran were also cast for the series.

Cherry previously discussed the potential future of the series at TCA, describing plans to follow an anthology format in the vein of American Horror Story, for which he said he was “jealous” of, and that his hopes are to convince the actresses of the first season to return as new characters.

The series is created by Emmy nominee Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives), who will also serve as executive producer alongside Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo. Acme Productions’ Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis will also executive produce along with Marc Webb who will also direct. Why Women Kill is produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios.

The first season made its debut on August 15 and is set to conclude on Thursday, October 17.
