Catherine Tyldesley: ‘I am easy pickings’ Star’s husband speaks out on Strictly curse

Catherine Tyldesley, 35, and her husband Tom Pitfield tied the knot in 2016 and they recently reflected on their first dance as a married couple in an interview with Hello! magazine. However, in spite of their happy relationship, the duo have already been subjected to teasing from their pals over the Strictly Come Dancing curse. The so-called curse has seen celebrity dancers and their professional partners developing romantic connections during the course of the show, despite them being married or in relationships. Addressing the jokes from friends, Tom told the publication: “My friends have always given me a lot of stick.

“I am easy pickings for them with a wife on TV so, when the whole Strictly thing came up, they were rubbing their hands getting ready.”

Fortunately, the former Coronation Street actress insisted her other half doesn’t read too much into the remarks and “takes it on the chin”.

Catherine divulged: “His mates wind him up about everything. They used to wind him up when I got a new boyfriend on Corrie, but Tom just takes it on the chin.”

The Strictly hopeful, who has been paired up with professional dancer Johannes Radebe on the series, explained Tom provides the “greatest support”.

She gushed: “He is so selfless, my best friend, and the greatest support to me.

“If ever I am doing a live performance, having Tom there just calms me down.”

The couple also revealed they are expecting South African dancer Johannes to become close to their family.

Speaking about Tom’s growing bond with her professional dance partner, Catherine added: “He hit it off with Johannes straight away,

“He has already invited him round for dinner, so I think Johannes will become part of our family.”

In a previous interview with The Sun Catherine addressed her thoughts about the curse once again, as she admitted in reference to Tom: “He’s got a WhatsApp group with his mates, a lot of them rugby players, and there is a lot of banter.

“They’re all like, ‘Oh mate, you’re screwed, she’s gonna run off.’
