Catherine Deneuve in hospital after suffering mild stroke

French cinema star Catherine Deneuve has suffered a mild stroke while filming her latest movie.

Denueve’s family said in a statement that the 76-year-old actress suffered a “very limited and therefore reversible” ischemic stroke.

They added that “fortunately, she has no motor deficits (but) must, of course, take some time to rest”.

Deneuve was taken to hospital in Paris but the family did not disclose the name of the facility.

An ischemic stroke is caused by reduced blood flow to the brain.

The actress has been filming De Son Vivant directed by Emmanuelle Bercot.

Variety reports that production on the film has now been suspended.

An iconic of 60s French cinema, Deneuve is best known for her roles in films such as Belle de Jour and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg.

She received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for Indochine in 1993 and a BAFTA nomination for the controversial Belle de Jour in 1969.

She has won two Cesar awards, which are the highest honours in the French film industry.
