Catherine Deneuve: French actress hospitalised after suffering mild stroke


The legendary French actress, 76, is in hospital in Paris. 

French newspaper Le Parisien reported on Wednesday morning that Catherine had suffered “an illness on Tuesday night that continued into Wednesday morning”. 

The newspaper had added that she was in a “serious state” following the illness. 

A family source told the French newspaper Ouest-France that she had suffered a “very limited” TIA (transient ischemic attack) which is a form of stroke that occurs when blood flow to the brain is temporarily blocked. 

According to the same publication, her condition is believed to be treatable and recoverable. 

She had been filming a feature film, De Son Vivant, for director Emannuelle Bercot in recent weeks. 

Catherine rose to fame in the  and was known as  “Ice Maiden” for her cool manner and enviable beauty. 

Gaining international recognition for her starring role in 1967’s Belle de Jour, she crossed over to Hollywood movies with the likes of 1969’s The Aprils Fools and 1975’s Hustle.

She was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in 1993’s Idochine.

She sparked controversy in January 2018 when along with 99 other French female creatives signed an open letter which claimed the campaign against sexual harassment had become a 

She later apologised to causing offence to anyone by her signing of the letter.
