Fans were recently left heartbroken after having to to say a final farewell to Lisa “Duffy” Duffin.

The nurse passed away during a recent episode in emotional scenes following a tough battle with dementia.

Duffy’s grieving partner Charlie Fairhead (Derek Thompson) and the team prepared for Duffy’s funeral during tonight’s emotional episode.

Duffy actress Cathy Shipton told Loose Women about her departure from the soap.

She said that she’d “undoubtedly” miss the role she’s played for three decades.

Fans weren’t happy after BBC posted that the show started at 9.20pm instead of 9.10pm

When asked about the heart-wrenching plot, Cathy said: “I suppose the hardest time was the early days…

“When the producers told me, honest to goodness, you mean Duffy won’t be a nurse anymore?”

She continued sharing how she dealt with the heartbreaking storyline alongside Derek Thompson, who plays Charlie.

Cathy said: “Do you know, working with Derek, he said to me because his dad had Parkinson’s, he said he saw the love between his mum and dad.

Some fans complained that they missed the start of the programme

“We just have to build up that love from him [Charlie].”

Speaking to the Sunday Express, Cathy claimed that her last scenes on the medical drama were emotional for her co-stars, revealing: “It was all very quiet on set in my last week, people were crying and really upset.”

Casualty continues next Saturday at 9.10pm on BBC1
