Caroline Flack’s boyfriend Lewis Burton looked downcast this week as he was spotted taking a phone call as the former Love Island host jetted out of London following her arrest for assault.

The tennis player and model wrapped up in a scarf and pulled his cap down low on his head as he returned to his house with a friend.

At one stage he was seen engrossed in a conversation on his phone, deep in chat as he sat in his car and peered out the window.

Lewis has stuck by Caroline’s side despite not being able to contact his partner, directly or indirectly, after she appeared in court last week.

The 40-year-old host pleaded not guilty to one charge of common assault on 23 December after she was arrested on 12 December following an alleged row with Lewis, 27.

Representatives of Lewis said that he is not supporting the prosecution’s case, and he has since said that she did not hit him in the head with a lamp as was claimed in court.

After spending Christmas Day volunteering, Caroline was later seen flying out of London on Sunday, covering her face with a £370 Burberry scarf as she seemingly attempted to go under the radar.

This comes after District Judge Julia Newton refused an application from Caroline’s defence asking to remove bail conditions that prevented her from contacting her partner and from attending his address.

Caroline’s defence Paul Morris said: ‘They had been in a relationship all of this year and he appears in court today to support her and they remain a couple. She wants to spend time with her partner. If the conditions were lifted there would be no concerns.

‘It’s not an irrelevant point, it’s Christmas, it’s New Year, she’s suffered enough.

‘She is in the public eye – this case has been scrutinised, she will conduct herself properly.’

However, the application was denied, and Caroline put her head in her hands; Lewis also put his hand to his face before the couple left Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court separately.

On Christmas Day Lewis posted a message on Instagram, sharing his sadness he wasn’t able to spend the holidays with his girlfriend.

Next to a picture of her at a fair holding a cuddly toy, Lewis wrote: ‘Gutted I can’t spend Christmas with you.

‘I want to repeat I never pressed charges and asked the other day for the bail conditions to be dropped but no1 listened to me.

‘I want this all to be over.’
