Caroline Flack texted Danny Cipriani that she ‘had to plead guilty’ the day before she took her own life, it has been claimed.

The former Love Island host took her own life on 15 February, weeks before she was set to face trial for assault.

The 40-year-old had pleaded not guilty in December to assaulting boyfriend Lewis Burton during a row on 12 December, with Burton, 27, also not supporting the prosecution.

And her ex-boyfriend Danny has claimed Flack was considering changing her plea, in a text message he missed on Valentine’s Day, the day before Caroline was found dead.

In an emotional video shared to Instagram, the rugby star said: ‘She texted me on Friday and she said that she had to plead guilty, and I had a game of rugby. Which again, is another story, another distraction – everything is a distraction until we actually understand that love and healing and coming together is what we need to do.;

Danny – who dated Caroline for two months last year – had previously tweeted: ‘I missed her call because of a f*****g game. I’ve been up all night. Never cried this much. But I’m showing u it’s ok to be vulnerable.’

Speaking about his ex, the Gloucester star said: ‘I have a lot of guilt, and the ritual for the moment is I have a lot of anger. If I stay on that, it will break me, so I have to see the meaning. She decided to call me in her last moments, when she was with her two best friends.

‘How much love and trust she had for me, ’cause we had been vulnerable and shared together, she felt it was a safe space. So I thank her for that, because I felt safe with her.’

And Cipriani broke down in tears as he said: ‘I miss her, I’ve written her messages that she’s not going to read because her phone’s not on. It is but she’s not here. I’ve had to voice things to her. And I’m gonna play the message at some point, the voice note she left about 15 days ago, because people need to hear it.’

In a previously unpublished statement shared by Caroline’s family after her death, the former X Factor host insisted she was ‘not a domestic abuser’.

She wrote: ‘On December the 12th 2019 I was arrested for common assault on my boyfriend …Within 24 hours my whole world and future was swept from under my feet and all the walls that I had taken so long to build around me, collapsed. I am suddenly on a different kind of stage and everyone is watching it happen.

‘I have always taken responsibility for what happened that night. Even on the night. But the truth is …. It was an accident.

‘I’ve been having some sort of emotional breakdown for a very long time. ‘But I am NOT a domestic abuser. We had an argument and an accident happened. An accident. The blood that someone SOLD to a newspaper was MY blood and that was something very sad and very personal.

‘The reason I am talking today is because my family can’t take anymore. I’ve lost my job. My home. My ability to speak. And the truth has been taken out of my hands and used as entertainment.’

Caroline had shared on her Instagram story that she wanted to issue a statement, but never released it; she was told ‘not to post it by advisers’.

It is believed she found out her trial would definitely be going ahead hours before she took her own life.
