Carol Vorderman: Countdown star speaks out after being pulled up for ‘boasting’ on Twitter

Carol Vorderman, 59, took to social media last night to update her followers as she made her way to Chester from Abergavenny in Wales by train.

Posting a picture of her sumptuous three-course meal on Twitter, which according to her post was included in the price of her train ticket, she shared information about her bargain train journey with her 422,500 followers.

One fan, who was clearly less than impressed by the post, pulled Carol up for “boasting” on social media before finally apologising for “any upset caused,” after Carol revealed she was merely “sharing info”.

Alongside two pictures, the TV and radio presenter said: “On my favourite train….Abergavenny to Chester…3 course meal included..chef on board ⁦@tfwrail.”

She enthusiastically continued: “This food is honestly divine. First class single Train ticket and food altogether.”

Before asking her followers: “How much would you pay?”

One user took to the comment section of the post to remark: “Making yourself look a p***k by boasting about it on Social Media: Priceless…”

According to the Transport for Wales website, a Business Class ticket includes a complimentary cooked breakfast or three course evening meal.

A sample menu for January featured Smoked Salmon with Pembroke Crab Salad for starters, Grilled Sea Bass with Quinoa Rice, Caper Berries and Dry Roasted Tomatoes for main and a desert of Vanilla Panna Cotta with a Berry Compote.

Not long after the remark, Carol revealed the cost of her “magnificent 3 course meal…[and] 2 hour journey…” was in fact “£51”.

She then retweeted the frustrated user’s comment and added: “Oh dear [user] got out of the wrong side of his bed this morning. It’s called sharing info [user]….try it sometime…lols. I think he’s in need of a Cwtch.” [A “Cwtch” is a Welsh word for a hug or cuddle.]

Within an hour, the user apologised to Carol online.

Making a complete U-turn, the Tweet read: “So perfect for the business commuter then.”

Adding: “BTW: You have my sincerest apologies for any upset caused.”

Carol later shared the apology with her followers, adding: “[User] has been the gent and apologised…..gladly received. Thank you [User]….we’re a bit special on this timeline…we only do “nice”, not sarky or shouty…that way is our happy way.”
