Carol Vorderman: Countdown legend speaks out on daughter Katie’s injury ‘Blame your DNA!’

Carol Vorderman returned to her BBC Radio Wales show today alongside Owain Wyn Evans and it wasn’t long before her daughter came up in conversation. The Countdown favourite said Katie, who she shares with former husband Patrick King, would “kill” her for revealing something she had text her previously. The 58-year-old stated how her eldest, now 28, had sustained an injury while playing with a mystery band. She said the story reflected just how similar the pair were after talk turned to tambourines after a song was played featuring them.

As focus returned to the studio after a song and news update, Carol was reminded of an embarrassing message from Katie.

She started: “My daughter once texted me – she’s going to kill me for saying this – she text me, because she’s a bit of a party girl like me.

“And she text me, ‘MUM!’ ‘What?’ ‘I’ve got a tambourine injury’. She was up with a band bashing the tambourine.”

Breaking into laughter, Carol continued: “Oh… I thought, like mother, like daughter.”

“You love a tambourine,” Owain, 35, said, as he reaffirmed the point she was making.

“Yes I know,” Carol then stated. “I said, ‘Blame your DNA, darling’.”

The small screen favourite is also mother to son Cameron, 22, with her former spouse, who she was wed to between 1990 and 2000.

Carol was also married to Christopher Mather for one year back in the mid 1980s.

It comes just weeks after the star and her daughter made their debut on television together on two instalments of The One Show.

“Our countdown to the first time my girl Katie and I are on the tele together…@BBCTheOneShow… Tonight and tomorrow… been filming at @NASA,” she had tweeted beforehand.

Katie is currently doing her PHD in Nanotechnology at Cambridge University, the same uni Carol studied at.

She also added: “Really excited. My daughter Katie and I are on tonight & tomorrow on @BBCTheOneShow at @NASA tonight.

“We meet #Apollo greats including Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise. Katie is a research scientist at Cambridge and worked at NASA in the laboratories. Mother and daughter happy!”

Carol has been quiet on the micro-blogging site this week as she seemingly enjoyed some days off, but posted about her radio show prior to the broadcast.

Meanwhile, it comes shortly after Carol Vorderman caused a stir as she squeezed her assets into an eye-popping outfit last weekend.

Carol Vorderman returns to BBC Radio Wales next Saturday at 11.30am.
