A 30-year-old personal assistant has surprised the adults she cares for by asking them to be her bridesmaids.

Kayrin Callaghan instantly knew she wanted the individuals under her care to be an integral part of her special day from the moment her fiancé, Alex Slater-Brown, proposed.

The mum-of-two has supported 24-year-old Jamie Kevern – who has Down’s syndrome – for two years.

Kayrin also struck up a special bond with Francesca, Daisy and Chloe – who also have Down’s syndrome – while enjoying days out at the local swimming pool and taking trips to the cinema together.

She recently asked the four of them to be her ‘flowermaids’ by getting them to open boxes full of balloons.

All four were ecstatic and revealed they were already planning a hen-do for the bride-to-be.

‘They opened the boxes and Francesca, who is the best at reading, read what it said aloud to everyone,’ says Kayrin.

Kayrin adds that the bridesmaids were thrilled when they were asked to take part in the wedding.

‘There were lots of tears,’ she continues.

‘They are so special to me, I wanted to give them the chance to walk down the aisle.’

The couple are planning a Disney-inspired Halloween wedding, so the bridesmaids will get to wear princess dresses.

‘I want them to feel as special as they are to me,’ says Kayrin.

Kayrin bonded with Jamie, Francesca, Daisy and Chloe as soon as she met them – and thinks they see her as their big sister.

In fact, the four of them can go to Kayrin for anything – from relationship troubles to sharing cheesy chips together after swimming.

Kayrin and Alex plan to get married in October 2023 and want a Nightmare Before Christmas-meets-Disney wedding.

And the personal care assistant is making a sweet gesture with wedding plans to keep the four in mind – as they will be allowed to wear whatever they want.

‘There isn’t going to be a colour scheme as Jamie always loves to wear rainbow colours,’ she says.

‘I just can’t wait to see their faces on my big day.’
