Captain Marvel’s fight with Thanos in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ was a very late addition

There has been much discussion about Captain Marvel’s involvement in Avengers: Endgame ever since the blockbuster’s release back at the end of April.

Those involved have previously explained why she only had such limited screen time, while the shot of Captain Marvel and her fellow female superheroes lining up to tackle Thanos has repeatedly received acclaim, too.

Now editor Jeff Ford has opened up about how Captain Marvel’s fight evolved throughout the production of Endgame, admitting that her duel with Thanos was actually only expanded upon very late into the film.

“When Captain Marvel arrives, that was in the script from day one, the way she comes through the ship. We knew she was going to do that, but what we did alter and add and expand later, mostly because of how much we loved what Brie was doing with the character, was her fight with Thanos before he power punches her back,” Ford recently told SlashFilm, via Cinemablend.

It turns out that there were plenty more alterations and additions to Avengers: Endgame’s culminating fight sequence during the production.

Not only was Iron Man’s already iconic parting line of, “I am Iron Man,” added at the very last minute, but during the same interview Ford revealed that when Peter Parker originally returned from the dead and to the battle-field, Tony Stark used this opportunity to introduce him to Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts.

“It’s one of those crazy meet-cutes in the middle of a fight. He hugs him and they have this thing, but it felt very incidental, like they ran into each other at an airport or something. We watched it, and they were both great in the scene, but it was like a comedy scene, so it had this schtick quality to it.”
