Brie Larson may be an important part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the star of Captain Marvel, but the actress still has to pay for her own Disney+ subscription. During an appearance on The Ellen Show on Wednesday, Larson spoke with host Ellen DeGeneres about the phenomenal success of Avengers: Endgame. When asked if additional royalties from all those ticket sales are going to Larson, the actress responded, “You know, I don’t even have a Disney+ account comped.” Larson then takes it a step further by addressing Disney directly by looking at the camera and saying, “Waiting for my Disney+ comped account, I’ve got multiple pieces of art on your streaming service!”
Of course, Larson can be seen in her iconic role as Carol Danvers in Marvel movies like Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel, which are now streaming on Disney+. However, the actress points out on Ellen another one of her earlier movies is available to watch on the service, referencing the Disney Channel original movie Right on Track. Released in 2003, the movie co-starred Larson with Beverley Mitchell as a pair of sisters on a mission to make it to the top of the motorsport of junior drag racing. It’s apparently a well-remembered movie as the mere mention of it brought about a wave of applause from the Ellen audience, with Larson referring to it as one of her “first and best” roles.
Larson made her debut in the MCU this year with the release of Captain Marvel. The movie was tremendously successful in its own right, surpassing over a billion dollars in ticket sales with a budget of less than $175 million. This success has brought about plans from Disney and Marvel Studios to produce an official sequel with Larson back in the lead role. Additionally, Larson was also seen in the role for this year’s Marvel sequel Avengers: Endgame, instantly involving the actress in two of the most successful movies of all time in terms of box office sales. With so much more money to be made and with Larson clearly very happy with the role, her time as Carol Danvers is definitely far from over.
Disney+ aside, we can also soon expect to see Larson in new projects for three separate streaming services. For Amazon Studios, Larson will play Victoria Woodhull in a biopic based on the first female presidential candidate in American history. She is producing the project as well. Additionally, will star in an Apple TV drama series based on the life of real-life CIA officer Amaryllis Fox. Meanwhile, Larson will also lead the Netflix Original movie Lady Business which will explore the challenges faced by female entrepreneurs.
Disney+ launched on Nov. 12 and has proven to be a big hit with subscribers based on its impressive library of content and affordable subscription prices. Aside from some key Marvel and Disney titles, all that’s missing is a feature to continue watching a movie or TV series where you last left off, but a fix is reportedly on the way.
