Canon M6 Mark II is Like a 90D with a Mirrorless Camera Body

In addition to the new 90D crop DSLR, Canon today also announced the EOS M6 Mark II crop mirrorless camera. The new M6 Mark II is basically a 90D in a mirrorless camera body.

“Bringing the controls and functionality of a Canon EOS DSLR into a compact mirrorless camera, the EOS M6 Mark II is destined to wow advanced-amateur photographers,” Canon says.

The M6 Mark II shares many of the same core features and specs as the 90D. You’ll find the same 32.5-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor backed by the same DIGIC 8 image processor. The ISO is also 100-25600 (expandable to 51200).

The electronic shutter feature shutter speeds as fast as 1/16000 of a second.

The Dual Pixel CMOS AF system in Live View has 5,481 manually selectable AF positions with the touch of a finger on the 3-inch 1.04-million-dot tilting touchscreen LCD. When paired with an optional electronic viewfinder, the EVF-DC2, the camera can also do touch-and-drag autofocusing. To aid in shooting human subjects, the camera features Eye AF Servo.

In the area of the video, the M6 Mark II can also do 4K 30p and Full HD 120p with no crop.

There are some areas in which the M6 Mark II shines brighter than the 90D: it can do a continuous shooting speed of up to 14fps with AF/AE tracking. When using RAW Burst Mode with pre-shooting capabilities, the camera can do 30fps.

Other features include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, a magnesium alloy body, a built-in flash, and a battery life of 305 shots.

Here are a couple of videos introducing the new Canon M6 Mark II:

The new Canon EOS M6 Mark II will be available in late September 2019 in black and silver versions with a price tag of $850 for the body only, $1,099 when bundled with an EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens and EVF-DC2 viewfinder, and $1,349 when bundled with an EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens and viewfinder.
