Candace Cameron Bure talks 'inspirational' Christian music special with brother Kirk Cameron

“Fuller House” star Candace Cameron Bure and her brother, actor Kirk Cameron, are bringing a different kind of benefit concert to coronavirus homebodies — one that highlights contemporary Christian artists.

The special “Hope Rising” will air on Facebook Live Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT with a slew of Grammy-winning and nominated artists like For King & Country, Kristin Chenoweth, Gloria Gaynor, Casting Crowns, MercyMe, Danny Gokey, Kirk Franklin and more. Candace and Kirk are the hosts.

The idea came to the siblings after they saw other music events happening but they wanted to “put one together that was different and that was really grounded in truth and hope,” Cameron Bure told USA TODAY.

Cameron Bure said “Hope Rising” is exactly what we all need right now in the midst of the pandemic.

“Even if you’ve never listened to Christian music before I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised,” she said. “These songs…are just positive and uplifting. And build up strength and courage.”

Benefits will go to the charity Samaritan’s Purse and people affected by COVID-19.

Candace and Kirk are both self-isolating at home with their families, so the production morphs them together with a split screen. All the artists shot their performances live from their own homes.

She said working with her brother was a “real treat”. They’ve joked that they have talked more in the past two weeks than they have in the past two years.

Besides organizing this concert, Cameron Bure has remained busy during the stay-at-home orders, continuing work for her production company and spending time with her family. She and her husband, Valeri Bure, share three grown children Natasha, 21, Lev, 20 and Maksim, 18.

“Lots of fitness and lots of food,” she said, laughing.

She’s also been leaning into her faith. “I’ve been reading my Bible every day, but even more so because I just want to be reminded of God’s promises and God’s truth and not the fear that can creep into my mind.”

As for “Fuller House,” Cameron Bure said they are announcing the release of the nine final episodes very soon. She also said she was able to finish shooting one Hallmark movie, a new Aurora Teagarden mystery, that is out May 17th.

Sadly, six other new Hallmark movies have been postponed due to coronavirus, but she is hopeful when quarantine release she will still be able to shoot a couple more mysteries and a Christmas movie.

“Fingers crossed!” she said.
