The highest and second highest suspension bridges in Canada are opening later this year, offering views of mountain ranges and a canyon from dizzying heights.

The Golden Skybridge will stand at 130 (426.5ft) and 80 metres (262.4ft) high respectively, making it an attraction that has the potential to be beautiful and terrifying in equal measure.

Those on the bridge will be able to take in 360 degree views of a mountain river, a 61-metre (200ft) waterfall and the canyon below.

The attraction will also incorporate a three-kilometre-long nature walk through the park and over the bridge, with six viewing platforms as well as an ‘experience base’ which will have a courtyard and café, so you can rest and fuel up before and after your trek.

In summer, a tandem bungee swing and a 1,200 metre (3937ft) zipline over the canyon will be added for the even more daring.

The website also promises the arrival of axe throwing at some point in the future.

The Golden Skybridge gets its name from the nearby mountain town of Golden, which is nestled near six national parks and popular with those looking for a trip full of outdoor adventures.

Attractions, hospitality and entertainment company Pursuit will be opening it for business in May 2021.

President of Pursuit, David Barry, said: ‘At Pursuit, we are focused on connecting guests to iconic places through unforgettable and inspiring experiences.

‘The Columbia Valley is one of those remarkable places that is uniquely positioned to provide a stunning yet accessible mountain experience.

‘Whether you’re staying in Golden or making it a stop along your journey between Alberta and British Columbia, the Golden Skybridge will soon become an iconic experience for Canadian and international visitors alike.’

Developer Paul Deutsch said: ‘There is such pristine natural beauty in this corner of British Columbia and the Golden Skybridge will provide visitors with an intimate look at such stunning mountain scenery.’
